Louis Queen

Early Life

LOUIS QUEEN, son of William Henry Clarke[1] and Elizabeth Queen[2], was born on 25 Aug 1863, near Collington, Prince George’s County, Maryland.[3] The relationship between William Henry Clarke and Elizabeth Queen, as well as the circumstances under which Louis was conceived, remains a mystery.

Marriage and children

Louis was raised Catholic and attended Mass at the White Marsh Chapel in Bowie, Maryland. It is possible that this is where he met his future wife, Mary Josephine “Hattie” Queen, daughter of Charles Queen and Rachel Johnson[5].

Louis and Hattie began cohabiting sometime before March 1881. On 13 Jan 1882[6], they gave birth to their first son, Harry Queen. They issued four more children[7][8] before being married on 27 Jan 1887[9] at the White Marsh Chapel, Bowie, Maryland. At the time of their marriage, they lived in the area called Chesterfield, in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, near modern-day Crofton.
