MARY QUEEN, called “Polly,” was born about 1802 in Maryland, near the Fork of the Patuxent River along the western border of Anne Arundel County. The date of her death is unknown. She married Archibald Hawkins—a free man—on 10 January 1817, in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Seven children were believed to be born from this union.
Children of Archibald and Mary “Polly” (Queen) Hawkins:
- Leeanna Hawkins, born about 1818 in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
- Archibald Hawkins Jr., born about 1824 in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
- Gasaway Hawkins, born on June 1826, in Anne Arundel County, Maryland; He married Nancy Bias of Anne Arundel County, Maryland; He died 31 Mar 1909, in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.

- Margaret “Maggie” Hawkins, born between 1832 and 1840, in Anne Arundel County, Maryland; She married Edward Gaither of Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
Polly (Queen) Hawkins traced her ancestry to Mary the Poppaw Queen, although her exact lineage is unknown—possibly descended from Nanny Cooper (a.k.a, Nanny Queen) or Phillis Queen. After their marriage, Archibald and Mary settled in the Second Election District of Anne Arundel County. At the 1820 Census, Archibald Hawkins and his wife were found living near the Bright Seat plantation with three children: one male and two females under the age of 14.
By 1830, they moved westward near the Fork of the Patuxent in the Fourth Election District of Anne Arundel County, with a household of ten “free colored persons.” In 1840, Archibald and his family were still inhabitants of the “Fork,” living near Daniel Queen and his wife Anna (Prout) Queen. Daniel Queen was possibly the brother or a close relative of Mary (Queen) Hawkins.
